I am Managing Editor of Industrial and Corporate Change, a quarterly scholarly journal published by Oxford University Press through the Institute of Management, Innovation and Organization at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley. I am also the home page for the Consortium for Research on Telecommunications Policy.

I was born in Tehran, Iran, of Czech and of Armenian parents, and brought up in Czechoslovakia, Brazil and Iran before becoming a U.S. citizen in 1960. After receiving a B.A. with special honors in international affairs from The George Washington University and a Master of International Affairs degree from Columbia University, I was awarded the D.Phil. in Politics and the History of Ideas from the University of Oxford, England. I undertook postdoctoral research as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow in philosophy at the University of Tuebingen, Germany, and Research Fellow in the Department of History at the University of California, Berkeley.

I am the author of The Aesthetic State: A Quest in Modern German Thought, published by the University of California Press (1989), and coeditor of Technology, Organization and Competitiveness: Perspectives on Industrial and Corporate Change, published by Oxford University Press (1998). I am presently completing a book-length study called Cytherica: Aesthetic-Political Essays in an Aphrodisian Key. This work forms part of my development of a faculty of thought called cytherics, in relation to which the panel "On Cytherics: Articulating Aphrodisian Environments" was held at the American Philosophical Association Meetings, Pacific Division, in San Francisco, on 31 March 2001. Finally, I am author of the reviewed novel Pfleghof: A Theophanic Tale and of the recently completed classical tragedy Rhea Silvia (Ilia).

I am Adjunct Professor in the history of world cultures at the California College of Arts and Crafts, Oakland/San Francisco, and I also teach philosophy, history, politics and literature in the University of California, Berkeley, Extension certificate program in the humanities.
